Abstract

We report the magnetization of diamond-like carbon (DLC) produced by the rf plasma-enhanced CVD method. The magnetization of DLC film was found to be diamagnetic when it was deposited on a silicon substrate. On the other hand, DLC film showed ferromagnetic behavior when deposited on a stainless steel substrate. Chemical analysis confirmed that the magnetization of the DLC film was not due to contamination from the substrate. Raman spectrometry studies revealed that the DLC film deposited on the stainless steel substrate has a higher ratio of disordered peak ( I D) to graphite-like peak ( I G) than that deposited on the silicon substrate.
