Abstract

The static and dynamic magnetomechanical properties of Terfenol have been measured over the temperature range -21 degrees C to +70 degrees C as a function of bias field. The ratio of the change in magnetostriction to the change in magnetization is used to investigate the magnetization process. It is concluded that the static and dynamic processes are identical and that rotation makes a significant contribution in the region of bias field corresponding to optimum magnetomechanical coupling. >
