Abstract

Abstract Natural Laiwu hematite ore (LW) hybridized with g -C 3 N 4 nanosheets was synthesized via a simple static electric attraction method. The g -C 3 N 4 /LW composites demonstrate remarkably high photocatalytic performance in the visible light region, and also a magnetic saturation value of 5.85 emu g −1 . The as-prepared g -C 3 N 4 /LW composites were more efficient than the single components. The optimised composite decomposed methylene blue (MB) solution up to 97% within 60 min. This high photocatalytic behavior was attributed to the Z-scheme heterojunction, which, when formed, enhances the visible-light harvesting capability and the efficient electron-hole separation driven by the matched band edges in the heterostructure. Results demonstrate a possible way to utilize low-cost, easily recycled, natural hematite composites as novel visible-light photocatalysts.
