Abstract

A new gel magnet, which exhibits a magnetically anisotropic property, was prepared by immobilizing 40% of SrBa–ferrite powder in the thermally sensitive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) gel under exposure of the static magnetic field (1.84 kOe). Magnetic anisotropy of the gel was evaluated as the magnetization difference between the x-axis and y-axis of the gel cube. The residual magnetization for the x-axis (0.063 emu/mg-gel) was larger than that for the y-axis (0.035 emu/mg-gel) at 22°C, which is lower than the phase transition temperature.
