Abstract

Magnetic surveys—Observations for magnetic declination were made at 113 stations in Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, and Washington by officers of the Bureau. State organizations, working under the Works Progress Administration, occupied 72 stations for magnetic declination in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. At two of the stations in Massachusetts observations were made for diurnal variation of declination; the observations were made at intervals of 15 to 20 minutes for several days. A large number of observations for declination were made near Sixty‐Mile‐Bank off the coast of California by ships engaged in hydrographic surveys. An isogonic chart based on these observations indicates considerable local disturbance in the vicinity.
