Abstract

The anomalous magnetic susceptibility of the low-temperature phase of Wurster's blue perchlorate can be explained on the model of the inequivalent ion pair. Quantitative agreement between the calculated and experimental susceptibilities, between the calculated and experimental heat of transition, as well as between the calculated and experimental integrated difference in enthalpy content of the high- and low-temperature phase has been obtained. The statistics to be used depend on an assumption about the way in which triplets can be formed in this system. In general, a system in which any pair of ions can form a triplet is favored.
