Abstract

The orbital magnetic and spin paramagnetic susceptibilities for Zn, Cd and Hg liquid metals with Z =2, Ga, In and Tl liquid metals with Z =3, Ge, Sn and Pb liquid metals with Z =4, and Sb and Bi liquid metals with Z =5, where Z is the valency of the element, are calculated by taking account of the higher-order terms due to the electro-ion potential in Green's function method. The observed results of the structure factor and the calculated pseudopotential form factor are made use of in the calculations. These susceptibilities also calculated as a function of the Fermi level, and it is found that traces of the Brillouin zone still remain in these liquid metals. By taking the enhancement into account in the spin paramagnetic susceptibility, the observed total magnetic susceptibility is satisfactorily explained by the calculated results for Zn, Cd, Hg, In, Tl, Ge, Sn and Pb liquid metals, but not for Ga, Sb and Bi liquid metals. The temperature dependence of the total magnetic susceptibility for Pb liquid met...
