Abstract

Magnetic surfaces and drift surfaces of single charged particle of an average min. B stellarator field proposed by Taylor are analysed by using an average method. The dependency of the well depth and the rotational transform angle on the parameters of the field configuration is examined. The deviation of the drift surfaces of untrapped particles from the magnetic surfaces is studied and it is derived that the deviation is approximately equal to the deformation of the magnetic surface due to the application of an equivalent vartical field.
