Abstract
The perovskite-type oxides BaUO 3, BaPrO 3 and BaTbO 3 were prepared and their magnetic susceptibilities and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra were measured. BaUO 3 (cubic perovskite) shows temperature-independent paramagnetism over the temperature range from 4.2 K to room temperature, which is in accord with the octahedral oxygen coordination around the U 4+ ion. On the other hand, BaPrO 3 and BaTbO 3 (orthorhombic) show magnetic orderings at 11.5 and 32.7 K respectively. The EPR spectra could be measured only at 4.2 K for the sample in which Pr 4+ was doped in diamagnetic BaCeO 3. The spectra for BaTbO 3 were measured even at room temperature and the results are discussed.
