Abstract

The magnetisation behaviour of amorphous Fe 80− x Sm x B 20 alloys with 0 ≤ x ≤ 16 were prepared by melt spinning technique and their magnetic properties studied in the temperature range 4–300 K at H ≤ 16 kOe. With increasing Sm content the magnetic moment μ at 4 K and the Curie temperature ( T C) decrease. The effective moment of Sm is about 0.3 μ B. We have analysed the results at 4 K based on the random magnetic anisotropy (RMA) model. The local random anisotropy constant K L has also been obtained from the analysis of the coercivity.
