Abstract

Some magnetic structures occurring in the rare earth metals are examined using RKKY theory first with a spherical Fermi surface and secondly extended to a quasi-free-electron non-spherical Fermi surface. This model yields a much more realistic Fermi surface in the reduced zone scheme than the free-electron sphere. The effect of temperature on the structures is considered in the mean field approximation.
