Abstract

Giant magnetoresistance (GMR) phenomena are briefly introduced and the relationship between the magnetic structure and the magnetoresistance of multilayers is argued. The merits of non-coupled-type multilayers, for technical applications and also for fundamental studies, are described. The results achieved on samples with doped interface layers indicate that the spin-dependent scattering occurs primarily at the interface sites. MR measurements in a new geometry, with the current at an angle to the plane, were carried out by depositing non-coupled-type multilayers on substrates with V-shaped microgrooves, and enhanced MR ratios were observed.
