Abstract

Electronic structure calculations show that the exchange interactions J ij in iron depend on the magnetic order in the neighbourhood. The resulting magnetic short-range order and spin wave dispersion are investigated by Monte Carlo simulation and spin wave theory. We conclude that calculations of the electronic energy of static configurations do not lead to unusual short-range order in the paramagnetic state.
