Abstract

We have developed a relatively large high-Tc Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O superconducting magnetic shield vessel of 150mm in inner diameter, 320mm in depth and 10mm in thickness. Magnetic fields inside the vessel were measured by using an RF SQUID magnetometer. The shielding factors, defined as the ratio of the magnetic field at 290K to that at 77K, were l×105 in the very low frequency range through 0.2 to 100Hz, which was measured near the bottom position of the vessel. Our experimental data are most important because the magnetic fields from human brains are as weak as 10−12T with low frequencies below 10Hz. Such a high attenuation ratio in the very low frequency region indicates that magnetic shielding of a high-Tc superconductor is promising for neuromagnetic measurement with SQUIDs.
