Abstract

Based on the London theory, the supercurrent density and penetrating magnetic field in response to an applied perpendicular magnetic are calculated for a superconducting thin film (strip or disk). Using the method of the Hankel transform, the formulations for the supercurrent density and penetrating magnetic field are given in two limits: a⪢ Λ and a⪡ Λ ( a is the width of the superconducting thin film and Λ is the effective screening length). From these formulations it is shown that the supercurrent density and penetrating magnetic field decrease by a power law with the distance from the edge of a superconducting thin film, unlike the exponential decrease in bulk superconductors.
