Abstract

NiCoMnSn porous metamagnetic shape memory alloys were successfully fabricated using solid-state replication of ammonium bicarbonate powders via sintering at 1273 K. Around 50% porosity of 300–500 μm interconnected pores was achieved. Oxygen contamination from the space holder and binder, which negatively influences the magneto-thermal coupling, was prevented using a titanium oxygen getter during sintering. The resulting porous samples demonstrate a metamagnetic response similar to the homogenized powder, offering possible utilization in magnetic refrigeration and actuation.
