Abstract

Magnetic resonance angiography has become a widely used and versatile technique for evaluating many neurologic diseases. Even with the current widespread use of magnetic resonance angiography, it continues to evolve as older techniques are optimized and new methods are developed. A general description of magnetic resonance angiography techniques will be provided, and the strengths and weaknesses of the techniques will be highlighted. The article focuses on time-of-flight and gadolinium-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography methods. The application of magnetic resonance angiography in the evaluation of arterial dissections, cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and carotid stenosis will be described.
