Abstract

A comparison between magnetic resonance and susceptibility measurements has been carried out in polycrystalline manganese ferrite (Mn 1.3Fe 1.7O 4) at temperatures around the phase transition. Magnetic resonance measurements have been carried out at 8.97 GHz from 500 to 600 K and a g value of 2.037 has been obtained. Susceptibility measurements have been performed in fields from 50 to 10 700 Oe in order to extrapolate to zero field, and from 490 to 540 K. A T c value of 514,5 K has been achieved. Critical exponents are obtained for the magnetic resonance linewidth, the spontaneous magnetization and the initial susceptibility. The analysis of these parameters reveals the different mechanisms taking part in the relaxation around the phase transition: the spin–spin interaction dominates and exchange interactions in the critical region are not confined to the nearest neighbors only but involve also the next-nearest neighbors.
