Abstract

In a study of the magnetic properties of compounds with compositions close to Y 2Ni 7 it was found that varying the nickel content leads to relatively strong changes in the saturation moment but has little effect on the Curie temperature. A ternary hydride phase with a relatively low hydrogen content was prepared from the compound Y 2Ni 7. The hydrogen absorption was accompanied by a reduction in the saturation moment and a marked increase in the Curie temperature. The results are compared with the changes in the magnetic properties of the antiferromagnetic compound La 2Ni 7 after hydrogen absorption.
