Abstract

UCo1−xRuxSn compounds crystallize in the layered hexagonal ZrNiAl-type structure with two inequivalent transition-metal sites T1 and T2 in T1-U and T2-Sn basal-plane layers. The concentration dependence of lattice parameters indicates a preferential occupation of the T2 sites by Ru atoms. Magnetic characteristics are changing substantially for x > 0.6, where the Ru atoms enter the T1 sites.
