Abstract

We have studied the magnetic properties of the polycrystalline layered compound Ca2.5Sr0.5AlMn2O8. The temperature dependent dc magnetization study indicates (i) a paramagnetic behavior above 150 K, (ii) a low dimensional short‐range spin‐spin antiferromagnetic correlation centered around 90 K, and (iii) a long‐range magnetic ordering below ∼30 K. The field dependent magnetization behavior shows the presence of a weak ferromagnetism at T<30 K which may be due to a canted antiferromagnetic spin arrangement.
