Abstract

Tapes, 1 mil thick, with sharp (110)[001] textures have been prepared from high-purity 3% silicon-iron. Surface energy driving forces were utilized to obtain the texture in the impurity-free silicon-iron. Magnetic properties of wound cores were measured at 60, 400, and 1000 cps. Exceptionally high values of peak induction, residual induction, and squareness, compared to ordinary silicon-iron, were obtained. Losses and excitation were comparable to 1-mil Deltamax properties. In a half-wave magnetic amplifier, the silicon-iron cores produced as much as 22% higher current output and 40% higher gain than did equivalent Deltamax cores.
