Abstract

Magnetic measurements were made on the cubic perovskite-type SrFe 1- x Co x O 3 (0≤ x ≤0.2). It was observed that with decreasing x the paramagnetic Curie temperature θ p and the Curie temperature T C decrease and the Neel temperature T N of the screw phase increases. It is argued from these results that the main magnetic interaction is ferromagnetic in this system (0≤ x ≤1) though antiferromagnetic interactions increase with decreasing x in the Fe-rich region ( x <0.2). In the range of 0.05≤ x ≤0.15, local fluctuation of Co composition is considered to give rise to a magnetically inhomogeneous structure above T N : Co-rich regions tend to be ferromagnetic and Fe-rich local regions paramagnetic.
