Abstract

Summary form only given. Newly synthesized n-dodecyl substituted poly(m-aniline), that is, poly[imino(4-dodecyl-1,3 phenylene)] was treated with several oxidizing agents (I/sub 2/, NOBF/sub 4/, MCPBA and so forth) in dichloromethane. Magnetic properties of these polyradicals were investigated on the basis of (i) the electron spin resonance (ESR) and (ii) the magnetization and magnetic-susceptibility measurements by the Faraday-balance method. Ferromagnetic spin correlation was observed in the polymer oxidized by NOBF/sub 4/. The spin cluster concentration was estimated to be 2.4 X 10/sup 19/ spins/spl middot/g/sup -1/. The average total spin quantum number was determined to be 1.01. Moreover, it was found that the sample has a Weiss constant of 10.5 K above 50 K.
