Abstract

Measurements of the magnetic susceptibility of the rare earth chloroapatites (Nd, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er) have been performed between 4.2 and 300 K. The Curie constant and the paramagnetic Curie temperature values are deduced. In the chloroapatite of neodyme (which is a mini laser material), the magnetic properties are strongly influenced by crystalline field effects.
