Abstract

The magnetic properties of high-efficiency core materials NC-M1 and NC-B1 were examined in connection with their performance when assembled in motor cores using the developed induction-type model motor. The efficiency of the model motor is better when these new steels are used owing mainly to the lower iron loss of the model motor. It is considered that lower iron loss of motor is achieved by lower alternating core loss at designed magnetic flux density, lower rotational core loss beyond designed magnetic flux density, and lower core loss at high frequencies (beyond ∼500 Hz in the present model motor) of steels used. In view of the high-efficiency core materials, it is desirable for them to have improved crystalline texture and perhaps smaller grain size in order to obtain lower alternating core loss, lower rotational core loss, and lower core loss at high frequencies.
