Abstract

Single crystalline EuCuAs with a hexagonal structure was grown and the magnetic properties were studied by measuring the magnetization and magnetoresistance (MR), for both field parallel the ab-plane (H//ab) and the c-axis (H//c). An antiferromagnetic (AFM) transition is observed at the transition temperature (TN) of 14K. For both H//ab and H//c, the magnetization increases quickly with increasing magnetic field and saturated at high field for temperatures below TN. For H//ab, even a metamagnetic transition can be observed at low magnetic fields. The saturated values of magnetization are 6.8 and 7.0μBf.u.−1 for H//ab and H//c, respectively, implying that the moments come from Eu2+ ions. According to the data of magnetization and MR measurements, magnetic phase diagrams are established for both H//ab and H//c.
