Abstract

Epitaxial magnetite and Co-ferrite films, bilayers and multilayers were successfully grown on MgO (0 0 1) single crystal substrates. A perpendicular magnetic anisotropy was observed for the Co-ferrite films, whereas the anisotropy almost disappeared when the thickness of Co-ferrite layers was less than 6 nm in the multilayers. This result suggested lattice relaxation of the layer or interlayer coupling between magnetite and Co-ferrite layers.
