Abstract

Compositionally modulated Fe-Si/Si amorphous films with a good modulated structure have been obtained by rf sputtering. By variation of the thickness d m of the Fe-Si layers with the thickness of the Si layers fixed, it is found that the saturation magnetization M, of the films decreases with decreasing d m . This is because of contributions from the dead-layer effect and the dimensional effect. With decreasing d m , the modulated films go from three-dimensional to two-dimensional magnetic behavior
