Abstract

Magnetic properties of CeSi single crystal were investigated by magnetic susceptibility, high-field magnetization, specific heat and resistivity measurements. Paramagnetic susceptibility follows the Curie-Weiss law with the anisotropic Curie-Weiss temperatures. A clear metamagnetic transition for the b-axis was observed below T N . The saturation moment for the b-axis is 1.7 μ B/Ce , while those for both the a- and c-axis are 0.9 μ B/Ce . The magnetic entropy at T N was calculated to be R ln 2, which suggests a doublet ground state of the compound.
