Abstract

The magnetic properties of a single-crystalline sample Ce 2 Sc 3 Ge 4 have been investigated, for the first time. On the basis of the magnetization, magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity and specific heat measurements, we suggest that Ce 2 Sc 3 Ge 4 is an antiferromagnetic Kondo compound with T N = 5.0 K. The saturated magnetic moment for the Ce atom is estimated to be 1.1µ B at T = 1.5 K by the magnetization measurements. Electronic specific heat coefficient γ is estimated to be 49.5 mJ/molK 2 , indicating that the system is described as a medium-heavy fermion compound.
