Abstract

Single crystals of Fe 2+ (d 6 ; S = 2) ID magnetic chain compound. FePb 4 Sb 6 S 14 were synthesized and the magnetic susceptibility and heat capacity measurements. The magnetic susceptibility shows a broad maximum around 33K and two anomalies at 8 and 3K. Although the dc magnetic susceptibility shows strong anisotropy. one-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnetic model gives better fit to the dc magnetic susceptibility data, compared with classical one-dimensional Ising model. The anomaly at 3K in the ac magnetic susceptibility shows significant frequency dependence. Heat capacity measurements manifest no long-range magnetic order down to 0.4K. However it has been still open question that FePb 4 Sb 6 S 14 is the second S = 2 Haldane compound.
