Abstract

The magnetic properties of Nd 60Fe 30Al 10 ribbons were studied in the as-cast state as well as after annealing. The anomaly observed in the temperature dependence of the ac-susceptibility depends on frequency and the superposed dc-field and disappears when the wheel-side surface of the ribbon up to a thickness of 9 μm is removed. On the contrary, the 57 Fe Mössbauer spectra show always two peaks in the hyperfine field distribution which are correlated to high and low magnetic moments, independent of the heat- and surface treatments. The intrinsic coercivity shows a strong time dependence for the whole temperatures range.
