Abstract

We have investigated the magnetism and magnetocaloric effects of RFe0.5Mn0.5O3 (R = Gd, Tb, Dy and Ho). The Neél temperature of RFe0.5Mn0.5O3 is near room temperature. The compounds except HoFe0.5Mn0.5O3 present a spin reorientation (SR) behavior also around room temperature. The maximum values of magnetic entropy change of RFe0.5Mn0.5O3 (R = Gd, Tb, Dy and Ho) compounds (ΔSMmax) for 0–70 kOe are 23.3 J/kg K, 9.3 J/kg K, 9.5 J/kg K and 12.6 J/kg K, respectively. The relative refrigeration capacity (RCP) values are 385.5 J/kg, 370.3 J/kg, 324.4 J/kg and 389.8 J/kg, respectively. These results indicate that RFe0.5Mn0.5O3 compounds are potential magnetic refrigerants.
