Abstract

Magnetization and EPR measurements on polycrystalline YbBe 13 lead to the conclusion that Yb is here trivalent with a Γ 7 level for the crystal field ground state and an overall splitting of 46 K. Below 1.28 K the compound is antiferromagnetic.
