Abstract

Using the similarity of mesons (qq¯ bound states) with Positronium (e+e−) and Muonium (μ+e−) we study the interaction of mesons with static magnetic fields. Assuming constituent quarks have magnetic moments we estimate the intrinsic magnetic polarizability of neutral and charged mesons. At the same time we suggest, that due to quantum superposition of (mz=0) spin-triplet and spin-singlet states of mesons in the external magnetic field, the lifetime and decay channels of hidden-flavour mesons J/Ψ and ϒ become modified. We apply our consideration also to light-mass mesons and we speculate on the enhancement of πo→e+e− decay rate in the magnetic field.
