Abstract

The magnetic phase transitions of samples Eu x Sr 1− x S y Se 1− y are studied by specific heat and ac-susceptibility measurements. The first order antiferromagnetic phase transition of EuSe is smeared by replacing Se by S(bond disorder) and by replacing Eu by Sr (site disorder). The critical exponents of the ferromagnetic second order phase transitions are strongly changed by site disorder. For higher Sr-concentrations a smearing of the second order phase transition is observed which might be due to the instability of the random dipolar fixed point.
