Abstract

Recently, a spin-Peierls transition was discovered in CuGeO 3, which is the first inorganic compound with this type of transition [H. Hase, I. Terasaki and K. Uchinokura, Phys. Rev. Lett. 70 (1993) 3651]. As is the case for organic spin-Peierls materials, CuGeO 3 has a magnetic phase in high magnetic fields. High-field magnetization was measured in pulse and steady magnetic fields. AC susceptibility measurements were also performed. The existence of the magnetic phase was confirmed. Effects of substitution of Zn for Cu were also investigated.
