Abstract

In this work, we provide an experimental investigation on the magnetic phase transition (MPT) and magnetocaloric (MCE) properties of the RE2RuIn (RE = Dy, Ho, Er, Tm) samples with a bcc superstructure. The indides RE2RuIn order magnetically at low temperature and exhibit large cryogenic reversible MCEs around their MPT temperatures. The magnetocaloric parameters including the peak value of magnetic entropy change, temperature-averaged entropy changes with 5 K-lift, and refrigerant capacity under magnetic field change of 0–7 T are determined to be 18.6 J/kgK, 18.2 J/kgK, and 372.2 J/kg around 15.6 K for Dy2RuIn, to be 22.6 J/kgK, 22.0 J/kgK, and 415.6 J/kg around 3.0 K for Ho2RuIn, to be 21.1 J/kgK, 19.8 J/kgK, and 346.3 J/kg around 6.4 K for Er2RuIn, to be 21.3 J/kgK, 20.7 J/kgK, and 347.8 J/kg around 3.2 K for Tm2RuIn, respectively.
