Abstract

Video studies of particle capture on a single current-carrying wire set in the axial and the cross-flow configurations show significant levels of particle accumulation at moderate levels of operating current and at practical values of flow rate. The buildup of particles in both the axial and the crossflow configurations are shown to follow theoretical predictions. Studies of trajectories in the axial flow configuration demonstrate that an assumption of laminar flow of the slurry past the wire provides a better theoretical model than one of ideal flow.
