Abstract

Abstract We discuss the ground-state magnetic phases of the localized moments in the partially filled one-dimensional Kondo lattice model. Ferromagnetic correlations arise at strong to intermediate coupling due to double-exchange ordering of the localized moments via coherently hopping conduction electrons. By incorporating double exchange in a description of the electrons, the phase diagram for the localized moments is drawn. Several features of the resulting order-disorder transition to a paramagnetic phase are discussed.
