Abstract

Specific-heat measurements are presented for a number of dilute Pd-Co alloys, in both zero and nonzero external magnetic field. Resistivity measurements on a Pd-Co, a Pd-Fe and a Pd-Mn alloy are reported and will be compared with the specific-heat data. From the entropy content of the excess specific heat a spin value of 1.5 is derived for Co in Pd. It is shown that it is possible to describe experimental specific-heat data, revealing a low spin value, as well as magnetization and magnetoresistance data, revealing a high spin value, with the Weiss molecular-field model incorporating a distribution of effective g values.
