Abstract

This paper proposes the electromagnetic modeling, prototype realization and test validation of a new triple-speed coaxial magnetic gear (TSCMG) for high torque/volume applications. The proposed magnetic gear is comprised of three rotors: inner rotor, middle rotor and outer rotor. The middle rotor has been changed to a new single-layer structure. Also, the proposed gear is compared with a conventional multi-speed model, the obtained results of which verify the increase in the torque and efficiency of the suggested gear. Moreover, the given gear shows an acceptable performance in terms of flux density distribution. The proposed TSCMG's configuration is based on the optimal design formula. Hence, after conducting analysis using the finite element method, a prototype was built and tested in the laboratory. The experimental results validate the presented design. The test results highlighted that the proposed structure provides higher toque density and superior performance.
