Abstract
It is shown that a spontaneous generation of magnetic fields in plasma caused by resonant excitation of plasma waves by means of a strong electromagnetic radiation has the character of a magnetic plasma instability which appears in the form of an exponential self-excitation of the magnetic field. An estimate of the magnetic field saturation level is obtained.
