Abstract

We investigate the hysteresis behavior of R 15Fe 77B 8 amorphous alloys with R = Sm, Tb, Dy and Er in the temperature range 4.2–250 K and their — extrapolated to T = 0 K — coercive fields in the light of some existing models. A small-fluctuations model does not explain the H c values at T = 0 K and a large-fluctuations model seems to be more appropriate. A strong domain-wall pinning exists in the Tb alloy in the temperature range studied, yet a domain-wall diffusion model fairly works up to ≈ 100 K in this alloy. This same model works better for the Sm alloy up to 250 K with a domain-wall thickness of about one lattice spacing.
