Abstract
The synthesized magnetic inorganic–organic hybrid nanocomposite, used as a phase-transfer catalyst on the mesoporous substrate in this paper, provides a green and efficient catalytic system for nucleophilic substitution reactions of benzyl halides in water. The structure and properties of the prepared 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) grafted on mesoporous magnetic hydroxyapatite (MHAp) have been investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, N2 adsorption/desorption study, vibrational sampling magnetometer and thermogravimetric analysis. The superparamagnetic nature and water-resistance of the MHAp@DABCO nanocatalyst leads the catalyst to be readily removed from solution via application of a magnetic field and be easily reused and stored.
