Abstract

The magnetic hardening effect of an (Nd0.04Fe0.96)3B alloy has been investigated. The amorphous ribbons annealed at 883K for 3min (A1) exhibit a hard magnetic behavior with a coercivity of 167.1kA/m. HRTEM images reveal that an ordered structure is formed in the Nd-containing sample A1. Annealing the sample at 1173K results in the precipitation of Nd atoms from the (Nd,Fe)3B alloy, leading to the destruction of the ordered structure and the reduction of coercivity. The magnetic hardening effect in Nd-containing Fe3B alloy is attributed to the Nd atoms occupying the FeIII site of Fe3B.
