Abstract

Linear primary permanent magnet vernier (LPPMV) motor incorporates the merits of high efficiency and low cost because its long stator can be designed as a simple iron core only with salient poles, which is very suitable for long stroke applications. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the magnetic gear ratio effects on performances of the LPPMV motor. Its topology and principle is presented. Moreover, an optimized magnetic gear ratio is obtained by parametric analysis. The motor, whose magnetic gear ratio is 10, will exhibit both good force performance and low motor losses simultaneously. Finally, this LPPMV motor is prototyped for verification.
