Abstract
AbstractThe use of magnetic fluids in the bio-medical field is becoming quite appealing due to the amusing properties and potentialities of these materials as bio-compatible markers to localize target molecules and to transport functional entities. Moreover, the use of magnetic fluids in integrated devices is very promising to implement lab-on-chip systems. Although this strong efforts towards bio-applications, magnetic fluids reveals interesting properties and peculiarities for the realization of inertial sensors and actuators with very performing performances and characteristic.This chapter is dedicated to a review of the use of magnetic fluid in the field of bio-applications with a specific focus on the implementation of actuators aimed to control small amount of fluid.KeywordsMagnetic fluidsbio-applicationpumpsversatilityreliability
