Abstract

A simple system is described in which a superconductive coil is used to produce an oscillating magnetic field of amplitude 0.04 T for field modulation of a steady background of up to 8 T. The performance of the AC modulating coil at frequencies below 16 Hz is presented and a quantitative explanation of its behaviour is given. Possible improvements to the design are suggested to extend the modulation technique to higher ambient fields.
